Every great dream begins with a vision. In this case, it was the Loja couple Amable Vivanco and Luz Balcázar, who, with hard work, faith and love for their land, decided to bet on tourism as an engine of development for the city of Loja.
A Family Legacy
In the early 90's, they visualized the need to offer a warm, comfortable and quality lodging for those visiting this beautiful city. Thus was born the idea of building a family hotel that would reflect the hospitality of the Lojano-Andean people, proudly bearing the name of a natural icon of the region: the Podocarpus.
Construction began in 1993 and, after four years of constant effort, the dream became a reality. On July 6, 1998, the Hotel Podocarpus opened its doors to the public with 28 rooms, becoming a place of rest for travelers, families, businessmen and tourists from Ecuador and the world.
A decade later, faithful to its vision of continuous improvement, the hotel was expanded. The Podocarpus now has 52 rooms, reaffirming its commitment to national tourism and excellence in service.
Today, Hotel Podocarpus is not just a building. It is the result of a family legacy, a history of passion, dedication and love for Loja. A place that not only welcomes you... it makes you feel part of its history.
